News Conventions Evaluation.

There are four main conventions that construct a news report. These are Interviewing Experts and Witnesses, Studio News Readers Or Anchors, Mode Of Address to Viewer & Report Structure. These are aspects that are included in daily news reports which ensures there is a solid distribution of what the news wants to show and a structure which they can use as a template for all of their news.

My example : "Interviewing Experts and Witnesses" :

In our example  we show how the News interview people. Here at the start of the video we see me explaining how during the news we see Interviews which people don't care about. At 0:12 we see an establishing shot of the area which news do to show the location of the Interview. On top of that I do a voice over to tell the audience what is is and in this case "A random pan" of the area. Also at 0:58 we see a graphics overlay of a typical news where we see the local time, name of the person being interviewed and brief information on what he is talking about. At 0:58 we see Kaval being interviewed and he is giving his opinion on what he thinks about the interviews that the news do during their report. Also via editing I have skipped parts of the interview to emphasise how long the interviews are and how they bore people. At the end during 1:27 we can see me signing off from the area saying my name, news institutions' name & area. Straight after we see a pan to a object which is significant to the area and in this case the van with the writing "Chadwell Heath Academy".

An example of " Studio News Readers or Anchors" created by Prinul and Farhana :

Throughout this video the "presenter" Prinul is acting out the mistakes a news anchor should not be doing while on set. To help the viewer see what Prinul is acting out Farhana uses the editing techniques to freeze the shot and tell the viewer what is going on in the video and what Prinul is acting out. For example at 0:24 we see the camera zoom into Prinul's face and then wee see a darker Colour Correction and Freeze Frame explaining the mistakes that are being done in that shot and in this case the camera should not be zooming into Prinul while live.

An example of "Mode Of Address to viewer" created by Prabhjyot and Anthony :

Here we see Anthony as the "News Anchor". Throughout the Mode of Address to viewer video we see the mistakes Anthony is making to show the viewer how an actual news report should not be. They strictly focuses on how not to do the Mode of Address. For example at 0:05 we see a still screen of what actually to do in a report but straight after in the video we see Anthony doing the complete opposite to show how boring and unappealing it would look to the audience. Also at 0:43 they use archive footage to show some humour in the video such as "One eternity later". As an interpretation I think they used this archive footage to emphasise how long the news goes on for. They have a similar idea to Prinul and Farhana's video which show the bad way to do it and how it's supposed to be done. I think it was a very good way to show the Mode of Address and Studio News Readers.

An example of "Report Structure" by Taylor and Ellie :

Here Taylor is the "News Anchor". She subverts that and explains the report structure in a way that is stereotypical. At 0:11 she is sarcastically explaining how the News usually starts. She says they use the music to "emphasise" how serious the news is when really people don't take notice of it. They way they have explained/interpreted each section of the news structure is  very accurate as usually we see the Anchor introducing themselves, then the headlines, then the intro ect ... At 0:46 she shows us a links to the studio equivalent which we tend to see in news most of the time. Overall they have shown the report structure clearly to the viewer of the video and have made them understand the Report Structure of a new report.
